Her Story

About Jada

I have been freelancing as a writer for about a year now, and I'm still new to this field. I run a blog on Substack called 'From Jada's Perspective,' where I write about community welfare, feminism, and wellness - topics that are really important to me. In addition to my freelance writing, I work as a store manager for a boutique, a position I started last August. I manage a team and work closely with the general manager and owners, and I've been told that I've been doing really great in terms of my accolades. I studied creative writing at the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2023, where I also minored in film and audio, though I didn't finish the program. I identify myself as a mental health advocate for my community, and while I'm not currently associated with any business or nonprofit, I hope to join some form of community wellness or advocacy organization soon. My values center around authenticity, being community-involved, and focusing on my mental well-being. I believe that being involved with my community definitely helps with my business, and I always lead with love and care.

Ten minutes with Jada

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my community and my family. They have been my biggest motivation, and I always lead with love and care, and I can thank my family for doing so, because I feel like if you don't have someone to support you, it's gonna be kind of hard to find that within yourself. Having someone else to help you with that is a really good blessing to have.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received is to stay true to yourself, and don't be so hard on yourself. It's very easy to be so caught up in life that you forget to take your time and to give yourself grace. I really remember that form of advice - to give yourself grace, and also take your time, because things were not built in a day.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say, never be afraid to step out and be different. I feel like that is the best way to show your attributes, and a great way to show your skills is to be your best self, and not try to look in other areas and follow other people. You have to be your own leader.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Right now, time management has been such an issue, because I'm working on so many projects, and I also take care of my family. So, time management has been a little bit of an issue, managing my time better. I also would say that competitors within the industry - they have certain attributes, and you have your own, so that can be kind of a struggle to try to compete, and you have to stay true to yourself.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say authenticity is most important to me. I also value being very community-involved - I feel like being involved with community definitely does help with my business. And I would say my mental health, too. Those are my values. I really value focusing on my mental well-being.
