Her Story
About Jada
I have been in the nonprofit field for 8 years now. I am Cabrini-Green Legal Aid's first communication manager after a long history of 53 years. I oversee our internal and external communications. At Cabrini Green Legal Aid, we are focused on removing barriers to equity. I serve as a bridge across the entire organization to ensure that we are amplifying our mission as well as our impact across social media. I am enjoying giving a voice to the voiceless and creating a platform where we are sharing stories of what happens when barriers are removed.

Ten minutes with Jada
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to building systems and not just projects. Repeatable systems that other people can use. I lead with purpose. When I am creating content, there's purpose behind it, there's impact behind it. I pride myself on telling stories that move people, connecting people, values, and impact. I see the big picture and am able to execute it. I am relentlessly curious, continuing to learn about communication strategy, nonprofit leadership, KPI measurement. Consistency and purpose.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage them to get connected to the work that you're interested in. Stay curious about the work. Be open to learning and unlearning. I truly believe in the power of mentors and their leadership. Stay the course. I love the nonprofit industry. No two days look the same. Give 1% every day. Continue to show up, and you will see results.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges: Typically in the nonprofit space, the funding is low. Majority of the time, there isn't a budget line for communications. Opportunities: The power of storytelling, the power of community voices, organizing. It's amazing what happens when you create space to advocate, to work together for a brighter future, to remove barriers. With a digital presence, you are being connected to more people, opportunities, and partnerships.
