Her Story
About Jade
I've been in my field 17 years. Teaching was God's direction even though I never wanted to be a teacher initially, but once I got into it I found it was my passion and love for mathematics with students. I have a knack for getting kids to enjoy math by making class interesting and coming up with different things to keep students engaged. My degree is from Southern University in electrical engineering but my career changed and I was accepted into Teach Baton Rouge. I taught in Louisiana and then at Humboldt ISD in Texas where I flourished. I attended Rice University math program which changed how I teach with conceptual understanding. I was team leader at Ross Sterling Middle School and instructional coach at Humboldt Middle School where we started Power Up initiative presented at Lead Forward conference.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Trust the process. Grow as much as they can in their knowledge. And to love what they do.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is parent involvement. Parents need to understand that it takes the teacher, the student, and the parent to help kids succeed. Without parental support it is hard to close academic gaps.
