Her Story

About Jaelle

Jaelle Dragomir is an accomplished writer, educator, consultant, speaker, and retired academic based in Medford, Oregon. She holds a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and completed doctoral coursework in Communication at the University of Washington, with a focus on interpersonal, intercultural, and political communication. Through her long-standing career in education, she has taught interpersonal and business communication, negotiation, and courses exploring spirituality, religion, and politics. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes meaningful connection, complex thinking, storytelling, and creating a supportive culture in which students can thrive.

Alongside her academic career, Jaelle has built an extensive professional practice through Dragomir Writing and Editing, which she has operated since 1998. Her work encompasses writing, research, proofreading, copyediting, consulting, and helping clients communicate their ideas with clarity while preserving their individual voices. Now focused on creative work following her retirement from academia, she is developing two plays that explore the complexities of human relationships and is writing a memoir based on her life experiences. She also envisions adapting her memoir into a theatrical production, reflecting her ability to combine writing, performance, and storytelling in innovative ways.

Beyond her professional and creative pursuits, Jaelle is deeply committed to community service, lifelong learning, and environmental advocacy. She supports organizations including Southern Oregon Climate Action Now and the Rogue Climate Action Team, contributing to efforts focused on climate action, environmental responsibility, and social and economic change. She believes that artists, writers, and other creative thinkers have an important role to play in addressing complex challenges because they bring imagination, empathy, and fresh perspectives to difficult problems. Her approach to life is grounded in service, continuous learning, and a desire to use her talents to make a meaningful contribution to her community and the wider world.

Ten minutes with Jaelle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my commitment to being of service to others and making a positive impact on my family, community, and the world. I believe in continually growing, learning, and becoming better, because personal growth is essential to moving forward. My purpose is to help others, contribute meaningfully, and use my life to make a difference.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering the industry to find a mentor, practice mindfulness, and learn to appreciate and care for their bodies. Prioritize your health, let go of criticism and past experiences that no longer serve you, and recognize that difficult moments can bring valuable lessons. Most importantly, take a breath, appreciate how far you’ve come, and keep moving forward.
