About Jahnavi

Jahnavi Sudharma is a PhD student and researcher affiliated with the University of Chicago whose research is based at Argonne National Laboratory. In this role, she focuses on improving the cycling performance of batteries for electric vehicles through the use of atomic layer deposition techniques, contributing to advancements in emerging battery technologies. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Science Educational Research in India and spent summers in Germany as a visiting student, gaining international exposure across Asia, Europe, and North America before pursuing her PhD in the United States. Jahnavi has completed mentorship and leadership trainings as well as science communication training. She is a member of International House, the Space Generation Advisory Council, and Mass Generation. She attributes her success to persistence and consistency, even during challenging periods, and advises young women entering male-dominated fields like hers to be brave and speak up for themselves to ensure they are heard.

Persistence has been key, even on low days, consistency drives me forward through challenges in my career.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be brave and speak for yourself, especially in male-dominated fields like mine where most colleagues are men; you have to defend yourself to be in the room.
