Her Story
About Jakierra
Jakierra Steverson owns and operates JMS Mobile Notary Services, a mobile notary business she founded in December 2023 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. A 2024 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in pre-law, Steverson became a state-commissioned notary to gain hands-on experience in the legal field during her gap year before law school. She previously worked as an assistant manager at Dollar Tree and now balances her notary services with a part-time role as a marketing assistant at an apartment complex, where she interacts with University of Southern Mississippi students. Steverson draws inspiration from her pre-law studies and values discipline and family in both her professional and personal life. She aspires to attend law school, establish her own law firm, and expand her notary business to serve more clients, including through non-profit initiatives for those in need.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jakierra
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My dad told me that no matter whether it rains or whether it's sunny, you gotta go to work. Even if you're sick or feeling lazy, you still have to go to work. To follow your dreams, you have to go to work. He also said to try to be the best at what I do, listen to other people's ideas, and follow a spectrum when listening to advice.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Try to learn as much as you can, anything that you can learn and pick up. Don't let women stereotypes make you feel like you can't do anything you want to do. You're a woman, certain things you can't do? No, because you can do it.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Discipline is the top value. Learning how to control yourself, learning how to be an adult, and follow those dreams despite whatever temptations come ahead. Family, of course.
