Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jamesha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to my mother, who has always been my greatest supporter and source of motivation. She taught me the value of education, hard work, and responsibility, and celebrated every milestone while supporting me through challenges. Her unwavering encouragement and belief in me have played a major role in shaping the person and professional I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is, “Never sell yourself short.” Although I consider myself confident, I’ve sometimes allowed fear and self-doubt to make me question my abilities. I’ve learned to trust my capabilities, recognize my value, and never let fear limit what I can achieve personally or professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the hospitality industry is to stay focused, stay motivated, and never sell yourself short. I started my career in predominantly male kitchens, so I understand the challenges of entering spaces where women have been underrepresented. Hospitality belongs to us too, and whether in culinary operations, sales, customer service, or leadership, we have the ability to succeed, lead, and make a meaningful impact.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in hospitality is the industry’s continued hesitation to embrace remote work, particularly in hotel sales. The pandemic showed that many responsibilities can be handled effectively outside a traditional workplace, yet some companies still expect sales professionals to be physically present. I believe there is an opportunity for hotels to embrace more flexible models and trust qualified professionals based on their experience, credentials, and ability to deliver results.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
One of the values that matters most to me is showing up for others. I believe success is not only about being there for yourself but also supporting the people around you and remembering where you came from. Staying grounded, dependable, and connected to others continues to guide me both personally and professionally.
