Her Story

About Jami

My healthcare career began in customer service for a medical device company, and after 9 months they asked me to join their sales team. That's when my sales experience started, and I focused primarily on medical device sales, particularly non-invasive ventilation. I worked extensively with respiratory physicians and served the Texoma community where I live. My role was really about educating the public and letting people know what resources are available to them, as well as being an extension of care for my physicians. I worked a lot in non-invasive ventilation with core respiratory physicians and with hospital systems. I used to come to the hospital where I'm now an analyst and do talks and education, so it's all come full circle. I've also worked in home health and hospice. Currently, I'm an Analyst for a hospital system, working on a major project to transition from paper charts to an EMR system. I oversee emergency department, inpatient, and outpatient documentation, reviewing everything from progress notes to physician orders, radiology, imaging, and labs, making sure all the I's are dotted and T's are crossed. I work with every department to ensure documentation is reconciled and streamlined, communicating with physicians to make sure proper codes are documented so claims can move forward and we can keep the doors open to serve the community well.

Ten minutes with Jami

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to staying positive and happy. I've heard the term 'Vortex~ you stay in your happy. You have to constantly be looking for those little bits of goodness, right? I really ride those, I savor those little moments, and it just brings more into your life experience. I cut out all the negativity because nobody has time for that. I really focus on my thoughts and make sure those stay positive to whatever the situation and the people in front of me. I just love on people and work through it. I think there's just a lot of fun to be had in our lifetime with that mindset. It's more of an abundant mindset, and there's no lack. That's made up.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

”Treat this role as if you are the Owner and conduct it according to your instincts and intellect with passion and watch the money and wonderful experiences flow in.”

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Educate yourself of body language and really listen to your clients. Figure out what your skill set adds to any practice or organization and highlight that. Own your craft.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I don't feel like it's a challenge because it's created a project for me to work on. A lot of people will look at huge stacks of paper and be like, oh my goodness, this is just overwhelming. But it's just where we're at right now, and I'm happy to do it, and happy to do it in a consistent and efficient way, so that when the new system comes, everything will be streamlined and smooth transition.
