About Jami
Jami Wells serves as Vivarium Manager at NOVA Southeastern University in Florida. She has held this first management position for a little over a year, overseeing operations in animal research. Previously, Wells spent six years as a senior animal care technician at a Florida research institute, concluding her tenure there as a tree shrew specialist where she managed colonies and personnel. With more than 20 years in the field, she is a member of an animal management association and has joined its planning committee for the upcoming annual meeting. Wells emphasizes humility, resolve, and kindness in leadership, drawing motivation from effective facility directors she has observed and from her faith and family. She enjoys outdoor activities aligned with her passion for animals and volunteers with her church on beautification projects and with Feeding South Florida.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My drive comes from examples of great leaders I've seen who ran facilities well. I'm about good character, being helpful, having resolve and kindness. I serve others and help them succeed. I'm a believer, and my family is very encouraging.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be true to who you are, don't let people back you down because you're young and female. Stand firm on things you believe in. There's strength in humility. Remain humble, know you can continue learning. You'll never stop learning but growth is gonna come.
