About Jamilah
Jamilah Rhodes is a marketing and communications manager and operations manager with at least 7 years of experience in the field. She earned her degree in communication from Northern Illinois and began her career in digital advertising as a sales lead at Yelp, where she helped business owners align advertising budgets with customer goals. Rhodes later served as people operations and marketing manager at Deloitte, supporting recruitment, operational strategies, and high-profile client meetings. She then moved to Los Angeles to work in media relations and promotional campaigns at Crunchyroll for major anime releases. After transitioning to freelance work through her firm JM Digital Consulting, she joined Central City Productions as advertising and sales media manager, securing partnerships for events like the Stellar Awards and Black Music Honors. Rhodes also worked as a production assistant and was invited to serve as operations manager for UFC Gym in Chicago, where she opened the facility and hired over 40 employees. She currently consults on communications and marketing for the Chicago Department of Digital Equity and the Midwest Underground Railroad Network while serving as associate creative producer for the SheBiz International Women's Conference 2026, following her recognition as a Trailblazer honoree in 2025. Rhodes attributes her success to her faith and the unwavering support of her family.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success to God and also to the support of my family. They've always been very supportive of everything that I've ever decided to do. They never thought it was crazy. They always managed to support and be my biggest support system and cheerleader in every decision that I've made.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just to trust ourselves. Trust her abilities. Trust that even if you don't succeed you'll succeed one way or the other in the end as long as you stay faithful to whatever you're pouring yourself into. And be 100 percent committed to your dreams and your passions.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges right now with being in freelance it's really just financial just trying to make a living and deciding whether or not to go back into the job market or finding the right opportunity for you. It's certainly been discouraging if you're not hearing from people right away so then you're kind of just fighting through. Just finding the work opportunity the job that will supply those financial gaps.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity heavily measured by transparency integrity resilience and faithfulness. You've got to stay faithful to something.
