Ten minutes with Jamilla
01What do you attribute your success to?
I contribute my success to being curious and having lots of compassion. I've always been willing to learn new things, and I've always wanted to find new ways to help others or support them in any way I can.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best piece of advice that I received was to never stop learning, and to always try to be a student of life.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't underestimate the value of your voice or your perspective. In my field, being always willing to learn and ask questions and seeking mentorships is really helpful. Beyond the books, knowledge and soft skills are required to be successful.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is making sure that quality care is accessible for everybody, because with it still being new and a growing field, there's a lot of people that are against this field or not sure about it. The biggest opportunity is being able to collaborate and grow, as more people can join and more opinions help make service better for everybody, while providing compassionate, ethical care.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Some of the things that I value and guide me daily are continuous growth, always being willing to learn, being compassionate even when it's hard, and moving with integrity. I like to always make sure that everybody feels heard, valued, and supported.
