What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my devout belief in God and His miracles in helping me to succeed. God has provided me with the strength, commitment and a genuine passion for helping others the same way He has helped me. Supporting patients and making not only a positive impact on their lives, but a meaningful difference, has always been my driving force, guiding my decisions and motivating me to continually grow in my profession.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to always be the best version of yourself as incorporating strong values paves the road for success. Don’t allow anyone the opportunity to belittle you and make you feel unworthy. Nursing is not a single person profession, but requires teamwork, and what matters most is not the amount of tasks you were able to achieve in each shift, but instead what type of a nurse and person you are who is always capable and committed of demonstrating compassion while ensuring patient safety and satisfaction. Sometimes the most simplest of deeds are the most valuable and it does not require much to make a positive impact on someone’s life, but sometimes just being present and engaged with the person is all it takes.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this field is to always remember why you chose this career path and to stay committed, no matter how long or challenging the journey may be. Focus on quality over quantity in everything you do, and never give up on your dreams. Perseverance, passion, and dedication will guide you to success. It is better to do a job slower and with more precision and better quality rather than with more speed and more chances of making mistakes, jeopardizing the quantity of more errors. Remember this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”
Another inspirational quote is by Ralph Waldo Emerson who said, “The greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising each time we fall”
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is staffing. Ensuring that we have enough skilled professionals to provide high-quality care is critical, and it requires ongoing attention, support, and creative solutions to maintain patient safety and team well-being.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me both professionally and personally are following God’s teachings and treating others with the same level of love, care and respect that I would like in return, and truly valuing what is important to them. I believe in listening, understanding, and honoring the priorities and needs of the people I serve.
