Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jane

01What do you attribute your success to?

A deep respect for Older Adults and their families and wanting to help provide ways for them to live their best lives. Educating caregivers about the caregiving role including self-care and problem solving.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

To find a career that you love and pursue it. Always be open to learning new things and how to apply these things to your field of work.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

With the rapidly growing segment of the population over age 65, more than ever professionals trained to work with this population are badly needed. There is job security in going into the field of gerontology but one must enjoy working with them and learning from them.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The growth of those 65 and older is rapidly increasing and there are not enough professionals trained in the care of geriatric patients and their family members. Another challenge is that the increase of those under 65 who are being diagnosed with a dementing illness and are unable to access the necessary resources to help them on their journey. A huge opportunity is in research to slow the progression of Alzherimer's disease and to find a cure.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

To be honest, a good listener, ethical in everything I do, to continue learning more about my field of interest, and to continue to educate others about older adults and their family members.
