A graduate of Hollywood Institute of Beauty Careers with a cosmetology diploma, Janelle discovered her passion and natural talent for hair artistry at a young age. She taught herself how to braid by practicing on her siblings and Bratz dolls, eventually developing the ability to create intricate braided artwork and custom designs, including spelling names and crafting artistic patterns through hair. Her creativity, artistic eye, and outgoing personality have helped her stand out in the competitive beauty and wellness field.
Throughout her career, Janelle has built a diverse professional background across multiple industries, including beauty, cosmetics, fitness, retail, pharmacy, hospitality, food service, customer service, inventory management, sales, canvassing, and daycare services. She has also earned continuing education certifications in early childhood learning, home health aide training, and loss prevention, demonstrating her dedication to expanding her skills and knowledge. Most recently, she added another chapter to her professional journey by beginning work with DoorDash. My ability to connect with people, remain adaptable, and bring passion into everything I do has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I believe my dedication to continuously learning and using my creative abilities to help others has been a major factor in my success.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to practice what you preach. I believe it’s important to lead by example, stay authentic, and apply the same standards, discipline, and positivity to my own life that I encourage in others. That mindset has helped me build trust, remain consistent, and continue growing both personally and professionally.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to never give up. Success is a process that takes time, patience, and dedication, but the results can be incredibly rewarding. Stay consistent, continue learning, believe in your abilities, and trust the journey. With hard work, confidence, and perseverance, success will follow.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is the level of competition, especially in the beauty industry where so many people are offering similar services. Because of that, it’s important to differentiate yourself through creativity, professionalism, personality, and the quality of your work. I see this challenge as an opportunity to continue growing, improving my skills, and building genuine connections with clients so I can stand out in a unique and meaningful way.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are environment, structure, and respect. I believe a positive and supportive environment encourages growth and success, while structure helps maintain discipline, organization, and consistency. Above all, I value respect — treating others with kindness, professionalism, and understanding is essential in building strong relationships and creating meaningful connections.
