About Janet
Janet Acquah is a mining and manufacturing engineer based in Evans, West Virginia. She has been involved in the industry for approximately 10 years, having started in 2015. Acquah earned a metallurgical engineering degree, which she primarily uses in her work, along with a master's in environmental engineering. In her role, she focuses on reviewing production, identifying operational issues, and implementing solutions to improve processes, often working hands-on in the field. She notes that the industry is male-dominated with fewer women, especially Black women, presenting challenges, but also offers opportunities for practical problem-solving and skill development. Acquah values professional connections as key career assets and advises young women entering the field to dream big and believe in their abilities. Outside of work, she contributes to her local church by empowering young girls, particularly those of her background, to see engineering as a viable path.
