Her Interview

Ten minutes with Janette

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to consistent effort and the habits I’ve built over time. Just as importantly, my family has been a strong source of support and motivation, and my education gave me the foundation to think critically and keep growing. I’ve also benefited from understanding and appreciating different cultures, which has helped me adapt, connect with others, and see opportunities from broader perspectives

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of the best pieces of career advice I’ve received is to transform challenges into opportunities. Instead of seeing obstacles as setbacks, I try to learn from them and find ways to grow. At the same time, it’s important to be cautious and considered in your decisions, hinking things through carefully helps you avoid unnecessary risks while still taking advantage of the right opportunities

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best career advice I can give is to do what you love. When you enjoy what you do, it’s easier to push through challenges. At the same time, keep learning—stay curious, pick up new skills, and stay updated on what’s happening in your field. Loving your work and growing with it will take you further than anything else

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges:

Access to capital – Many entrepreneurs and small businesses struggle to secure funding, especially in emerging markets or underserved communities.

Regulatory hurdles – Complex laws, bureaucracy, and inconsistent policies can slow down business formation and growth.

Market uncertainty – Economic fluctuations, global crises, and changing consumer behavior create risk and unpredictability.

Talent and skill gaps – Finding employees with the right skills—or training them—is a persistent issue.

Infrastructure limitations – Poor transport, digital connectivity, or energy systems can hinder scaling and competitiveness.

Opportunities

Innovation and tech adoption – Digital tools, fintech, AI, and sustainable tech create new business models and ways to reach markets.

Global market access – Entrepreneurs can now reach international markets faster than ever, opening export and collaboration opportunities.

Social entrepreneurship – There’s growing demand for businesses that address social or environmental issues while being profitable.

Public-private partnerships – Governments often offer programs, grants, or incentives to boost entrepreneurship and local economic development.

Knowledge-sharing and networks – Access to online resources, mentorship programs, and global communities helps entrepreneurs overcome knowledge gaps.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Values in Personal Life

Integrity – Being honest with yourself and others, even when it’s difficult.

Family and Relationships – Prioritizing meaningful connections and supporting the people who matter most.

Lifelong Learning – Staying curious, growing through experiences, and seeking knowledge continuously.

Empathy and Understanding – Respecting different perspectives, cultures, and experiences.

Resilience and Adaptability – Facing challenges with a solution-oriented mindset and turning obstacles into opportunities.

Balance – Maintaining a healthy harmony between work, personal growth, and well-being.
