Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to always staying determined to succeed. Never giving up, despite the most unfavorable odds. My mom’s family came to this country 100 years ago from Finland and Estonia, running from Russia’s wrath in World War I. They had to completely start over from whatever resources they could collect and earn. They had to stay determined. There’s a special word for this flavor of determination - sisu. The world can take everything you love and hold dear, but nothing can take that from you. At the end of the day, all we have are our values, and that is the most important one to me.

Q

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are balance, creativity, and presence—nurturing my family, staying active through yoga and dance, and finding inspiration in painting and the outdoors.
