About Janice
Janice Ehlert is a seasoned professional with more than 20 years of experience in government pension programs. Her work centers on legislative policy, appropriations, and budget issues, where she also translates actuarial data into clear terms for boards, members, and the legislature. She earned her MBA in political science and business in 1999 and regularly attends NCPERS conferences as well as events hosted by the National Governors Association. Ehlert values understanding the purpose behind her work and advises being kind to others while exercising caution in public conversations, particularly in government settings. She encourages young women in the field to listen without accepting the status quo and to push back on norms when needed. Currently, she sees AI as the most significant opportunity and challenge in her industry.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Being nice to everyone because you never know where they're going to show up. Also, be careful what you say in a bathroom in a public place, especially in a capital.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Listen but don't accept the norm. Push against those sayings. Sometimes people just need to hear it multiple times. Don't take notes the first time.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI is the biggest thing right now.
