Janice Scott
I'm a multifaceted entrepreneur who has built a remarkable career across entertainment, law enforcement, ministry, and business over the past 9 years. I own an online clothing business called Heavenly Blessings, which I created in honor of my beloved mother who passed away at 95. My acting career has been extensive - I've appeared in Coming to America 2 with Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall, all five seasons of Greenleaf singing in the choir, and worked with stars like Queen Latifah, Brandy, and MC Lyte, who is a very good friend. I spent 5 weeks at Tyler Perry's studio filming Coming to America and have been in numerous other productions including The Haves and the Have Nots and other Tyler Perry projects. Atlanta has become the Black Hollywood, and I've been right in the heart of it with over 300 pictures with various actors. Before entertainment, I served as a Special Deputy U.S. Marshal and in law enforcement here in Atlanta for over half my life. As an inventor, I'm currently working with a company preparing to invest in my feminine hygiene product. I'm also an author - my book 'Three Steps in Overcoming Trials and Tribulation' has been inducted into the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Library Hall of Fame. Now I'm transitioning into what I consider the fullness of my calling - full-time ministry and public speaking. I travel and speak at different organizations and schools, sharing my message of staying grounded and being true to yourself. In 2021, I was inducted into the Who's Who in Black Atlanta, 19th edition. But my greatest accomplishment is going back to my hometown of Gould, Arkansas and working with the city council to name a street after my mother - Gracie Lee Scott Street. She knew it was coming before she passed, and to me, that honor of honoring thy mother and father is the greatest thing I've ever done.

What do you attribute your success to?
Without God, I'm zero, and he gets all of the credit. Number one, God, because he's the reason why I breathe. And after that, my mom - she's in heaven now, but she instilled the values in me, my character, my integrity, how to treat myself and how to treat other people. All of that comes from my mom. She grounded me very, very well. I set the bar real high, you know, I don't live a non-compromising lifestyle. Yeah, God, and then my mom, and then myself, my church home and myself.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Set your standards high, and don't lower them for anybody. Set the bar high, and make people come up to your bar. You don't adjust your bar to go to people. This advice was given to me in 1985, and it has guided my entire career - set your standards high, and let people come up to your bar.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would say the challenge is being able to relate to the youth today, to get them to see that you don't have to change who you are just because the norms and values of society have changed. The opportunities for me are endless. I'm going to continue to travel the world, and once this patent gets settled and resolved, we're going to continue to travel to the different universities. I'll be speaking in schools, like I always have, in the universities, just trying to get people to stay grounded and be who they are. Don't allow social media and influencers and all that kind of stuff to add pressure to your everyday life. Just be who you are, and you will grow.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Living right. Living according to the Word - yeah, living right, because I found out that if you just do it right, and treat people right, and do it right, good will come. You're going to always go through things, yeah, because we live on this earth, but my integrity, my character, and non-compromising lifestyle has gotten me where I am today.
