About Janie

Janie Kempf serves as Marketing Manager for Feldmeier Equipment, Inc. and Meier’s Creek Brewing Company, sister companies owned by the Feldmeier family. In her role, she oversees a broad range of marketing initiatives across the companies and their multiple locations, including advertising, social media, communications, website management, content development, and brand strategy. With particular strengths in graphic design and photography, Kempf brings a strong visual and creative perspective to her work while also managing vendor relationships, coordinating marketing projects, and maintaining consistent brand messaging across various platforms.

Kempf began her professional career in August 2021 after earning her B.S. in Business Administration from Elmira College, with a minor in Art and a concentration in Marketing. While pursuing her M.S. in General Management at Elmira College, she worked as a Creative Content Coordinator in the Office of Communications and Marketing, where she developed print and digital materials and utilized her skills in graphic design, photography, videography, and web design. She also served as a part-time assistant field hockey coach, building experience in leadership, organization, recruitment, and team development.

Following completion of her master's degree, Kempf joined Feldmeier Equipment and Meier’s Creek Brewing Company as a Sales and Marketing Coordinator before advancing to Marketing Manager. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Kempf remains actively involved in field hockey and her local community. She volunteers as an assistant field hockey coach at SUNY Morrisville and organizes a field hockey league in her hometown of Cazenovia, New York. She is also a member of the Cazenovia Lions Club, where she participates in community activities and helps organize the adult field hockey league sponsored by the organization. Combining her business education with expertise in graphic design, photography, marketing, and communications, Kempf continues to develop her career at the intersection of creative strategy and business growth.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Janie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success largely to strong organization, time management, and project management skills. I rely heavily on spreadsheets, calendars, and clearly defined deadlines and due dates to keep projects organized and ensure nothing falls through the cracks. Being able to prioritize responsibilities, manage multiple projects efficiently, and stay ahead of deadlines has been essential to my professional growth. I believe organization and time management are among my strongest skill sets and have played a significant role in my success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to understand the difference between having free time and being available. Having an open schedule does not necessarily mean that I need to make myself available for work or other responsibilities. Learning to set boundaries and protect my personal time has helped me recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I believe being intentional about when I am available allows me to be more focused, productive, and present both professionally and personally.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to prioritize building genuine relationships and developing a strong professional network. Connections can open doors, provide valuable guidance, and create opportunities throughout your career, but the most meaningful relationships are built through authenticity and mutual support. Take the time to nurture those connections, stay in touch with people, and continue building relationships as you grow professionally. A strong network can be one of the most valuable assets you have throughout your career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in marketing right now is the growing expectation for smaller teams to manage a much broader range of responsibilities. Marketing professionals are increasingly expected to handle everything from advertising and social media to internal and external communications, photography, website management, and content creation. While this can be demanding, I also see it as an opportunity to develop a diverse skill set, take greater ownership of projects, and demonstrate the value of marketing across an organization. Being adaptable and able to manage multiple areas effectively has become increasingly important in the field.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are creativity, passion, and community involvement. Photography and graphic design are especially meaningful to me because they are areas I genuinely enjoy, both professionally and personally. When I am working on creative projects, it often does not feel like work because I truly enjoy what I do, and I continue pursuing these interests outside of my regular work hours. I also place a strong value on staying involved in my community and contributing my time and skills to activities and organizations that are meaningful to me.
