Janie Rojas is an experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) professional with a strong track record of ensuring safe and compliant work environments across industrial and construction settings. Currently serving as HSE Lead at Gulfspan Industrial LLC, she provides leadership in safety management, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance, guiding teams to maintain high standards of workplace safety. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the early hands-on experience I gained working at my uncle’s residential construction company in Brownsville, Texas. I started there at the age of 19, and it was where my passion for construction truly took root, shaping my career and fueling my dedication to safety, quality, and teamwork in every project I lead.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to embrace every opportunity that comes your way. I attribute my success to the experiences and opportunities that have allowed me to grow, learn, and advance to where I am today.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the construction industry is to never give up, no matter the challenges you face. Stay determined, trust your skills, and persist through obstacles—resilience and perseverance are essential to building a successful and fulfilling career in this field.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—in my field right now is effectively managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines. Balancing priorities, coordinating teams, and ensuring safety and compliance under time constraints requires strong organizational skills, clear communication, and proactive problem-solving. Excelling in this area not only keeps projects on track but also strengthens team performance and overall operational efficiency.

The most important value to me, both in my work and personal life, is **helping people**.
