Her Story

About Janie

Janie Stoddard serves as team lead for the number one large team at Coldwell Banker Colorado. She has spent 21 years in real estate after transitioning from a sales and marketing company she co-owned in Southern California. Upon relocating to Colorado, she pursued her interest in real estate, navigating an early market downturn that tested her resolve. A 1977 business graduate of Arizona State University, Stoddard previously advanced in retail to become a buyer before shifting to sales for greater schedule flexibility as a single mother. She maintains active membership in the National Association of Realtors and the Denver Metro Board of Realtors. Stoddard credits her success to perseverance and the financial support that enabled her to persist through challenging periods. She also contributes through charity work with Children's Hospital Colorado and values maintaining work-life balance while guiding clients in a softening market that offers opportunities for reset and professional attrition among newer agents.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Janie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance. I'm not a person that gives up easily. I also had financial support from my husband which allowed me to stay in the business without worrying about supporting my family.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best professional advice was being steered towards Coldwell Banker by someone who set up an interview for me when I got my real estate license. It has been a good fit for 21 years.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

If you love what you're doing, persevere and figure out ways to get small footholds in the market. Every connection you make is valuable, like building a spider web where one person leads to another.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The market has softened from the pandemic highs, providing opportunity for a reset. Many agents who started during the boom don't know how to work through challenging markets. There will be attrition as 82% of licensed agents have not had a transaction this year.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Work-life balance is important. It's challenging to shut off at night when working from home, but I take blocks of time out of the day for myself and work my schedule around clients and phone calls.
