About Janis

Janis Davis-Street is a global leader in workforce health and well-being with over 25 years of experience spanning population health, disease prevention, and health program development. Her career began in nutrition research at the Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Nutrition Research Center and continued at NASA, where she spent nearly 16 years supporting astronaut health, leading education outreach, and co-authoring the middle school textbook Space Nutrition. Her work at NASA emphasized not only scientific innovation but also inspiring underserved youth to envision careers in STEM. Following her time at NASA, Janis joined Chevron, dedicating 19 years to advancing workforce wellness and community health. As manager of global workforce and community health, she led initiatives that strengthened organizational culture, enhanced health literacy and resilience, and delivered measurable outcomes for employees and business performance. Known for her expertise in change management, leadership engagement, mentoring, and high-performing team development, she consistently leveraged data and evidence-based practices to drive meaningful impact at scale. A committed advocate for social good, Janis partners with nonprofit organizations to address social determinants of health through education and career development. Her work has earned her numerous accolades, including NASA’s Silver Snoopy Award, the 2023 Leadership in Health & Productivity Management Award, and recognition as a Healthiest Employers® Wellness Champion. Now retired from Chevron, she continues to influence the field through board service, advocacy for teachers’ maternal leave, and volunteer initiatives, bringing her lifelong mission of helping people thrive into every endeavor.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a sustained curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning. My strong scientific training, combined with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, accessible insights, has been invaluable. Additionally, I believe that reflective leadership—through ongoing education and self-reflection—has helped me become a more effective manager and mentor.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in my field is leveraging data and public health informatics, including emerging tools like AI, to enhance workplace and community health programs. At the same time, a key challenge is building and influencing systems that ensure equitable health and well-being, particularly for underserved populations.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me in both my work and personal life include centering people’s ability to thrive, fostering mentorship, promoting equity for underserved groups, and cultivating resilience. I am also deeply committed to translating scientific knowledge into practical, accessible programs that make a real difference.
