About Janya

I am a finance educator and academic administrator with over two decades of experience in higher education, currently serving as Clinical Professor of Finance at the University of Illinois Chicago, a role I have held since August 2018. In this position, I teach courses at the undergraduate level, including Financial Plan Development, Options and Futures Markets, and Energy Finance, and I served as Associate Dean for Student Success from August 2018 to May 2025, where I oversaw multiple student success initiatives at UIC Business, drawing on my many years of administrative experience in higher education.

Prior to joining UIC, I spent nearly sixteen years at the University of Oklahoma, where I served as Associate Professor and Michael F. Price Student Investment Fund Professor, teaching and mentoring students in finance and investment management.

I hold a Doctor of Philosophy in Finance and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Utah.

Across my career in finance education and academic leadership, my work has been driven by a commitment to student success, excellence in teaching, and preparing the next generation of finance professionals. Whether I am in the classroom teaching complex financial concepts, leading student success initiatives, or mentoring students as they launch their careers, I bring a passion for education, a collaborative approach, and a dedication to helping students achieve their full potential. I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career and excited to continue making a difference in the lives of students and the field of finance education.
