Her Story
About Jashonda
Jashonda Schooley serves as a 7th grade teacher of ELA and social studies, having entered full-time classroom teaching this year after working as a substitute for 27 years. Her educational background includes an associate degree in special needs from Gaston College, certificates and an associate degree from CPCC, and a bachelor's degree in language and literacy for K-8 education from Wingate University. She also speaks Spanish and Russian fluently. Schooley has received the NSLS National Leadership Scholars Award from Wingate University for her high GPA and community involvement. In addition to her teaching role, she volunteers as a hospitality ambassador with Levine's Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House. She attributes her success to the encouragement of her four children and supportive parents, and she draws career inspiration from advice to always try new opportunities. Schooley values faith, family, church, honesty, and integrity, and she advises young women entering education to be strong leaders who encourage children to let their light shine while being good humans.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My children have inspired me to continue and keep pushing forward. My second son, who is graduating with me, has been a huge impact. My children are very encouraging, and I see them encouraging me back. I also have great parents who help me balance everything.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Just try no matter what it is in life. Take the opportunity to just try to do it. If you miss an opportunity, you'll never know what you could have achieved. Always try and take advantage of any opportunities.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be a strong leader and impress your talents and abilities to make a great impact. Encourage children to go out and let their light shine. The biggest thing is just to be a good human.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My faith, my church, and family. Emphasizing that people are honest and true to themselves makes a big difference. Integrity is key.
