Her Story
About Jasmine
I've been in the mining manufacturing field for almost 6 years, and I've been in my current position as a Human Resources Manager/HRBP for 3 years. In this role, I'm responsible for driving the HR processes across my division, which spans 10 locations throughout Alabama, Virginia, Missouri, Florida, and Louisiana. I support my leaders with all things related to HR, such as performance management, succession planning, recruiting, career development, coaching, employee trainings, and making sure they remain compliant. I also handle labor relations because some of my locations are union, and workforce planning, which encompasses everything I do for them. My most notable professional achievement has been receiving two promotions within that period. I've had great leaders who recognize how hard I work for the company and how committed and dedicated I am, and I've been able to consistently grow my career in a fairly short period of time. If I'm being honest, I kind of just fell into this field. One of my early career opportunities was to train new hires when I worked for the power company, and that involved onboarding and training our new employees. During that job is when I started graduate school and decided to focus and have some of my concentration in human resources. That led to starting my HR career at Tuskegee University, and I've been in there ever since.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jasmine
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being a continuous learner. I think there's always something new that we can learn, or a better way that we can learn to do some things. And then I also attribute it to great leaders who saw something in me and, you know, encouraged me or pushed me in ways that I could get to my potential.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received would have been from one of my great leaders, and it would have been related to tough moments. Tough moments don't last - they're temporary. So you just get through the tough moment, and you see that everything is okay.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women would be you can go as far as you would like to. Just keep learning, keep growing. And you can get there.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges will probably be the workforce, the changes in the workforce. And the opportunities would be great opportunities for sustainability in taking care of the environment that we pull from.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say my values overlap in both my work and personal life. I would say integrity is number one for me. Respect of all individuals. I think those would be my top two values.
