Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jasmine

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my village - my parents and family who have always been supportive, my group of mentors who I call my board of directors, a thirst for lifelong learning, understanding my transferable skills, and never giving up. I always adapt and overcome obstacles to continue growing and moving forward.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to always be eager to learn something new. Invest in your own professional development through reading publications, attending conferences, joining professional organizations, and volunteering on special projects to build your skill set and stay up on current trends.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The job market is changing based on demand and needs. We have an unskilled workforce that needs to skill up, upscale, and rebrand based on what the economy needs. There is difficulty with transferable skills and competition due to layoffs.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

As I look toward the future, I remain committed to leading with purpose, authenticity, and service. Whether I am helping strengthen public safety initiatives, mentoring future leaders, advancing equitable workplaces, or building partnerships throughout Chicago, my goal has always been the same: to leave every organization and every community stronger than I found it. I attribute long-term success to a combination of strong family support, mentorship, persistence, lifelong learning, and the ability to adapt to change.
