About Jasmine

Jasmine Kinard is a dedicated education professional and current student at North Carolina A&T State University, also known as North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She has been a student there for three years, studying elementary education with a corollary in special education, and maintains an honors status as a Corning Scholar through Corning Incorporated. As president of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society, the top chapter of this educational honor society, she demonstrates leadership in her field. Jasmine began her involvement in education approximately four years ago during high school and gained hands-on teaching experience last summer with Freedom Schools, a program of the Children's Defense Fund, where she focused on literacy and civil action. She will continue similar work this year as a servant leader intern at Aggie Academy during after-school hours. In addition to her academic pursuits, she is a licensed cosmetologist who enjoys the work on the side without overwhelming her studies. Inspired by her mother, an educator, and a high school teacher cadet class, Jasmine plans to teach in a special education classroom after graduation while pursuing a master's degree in Educational Leadership. She values community and humanity highly, seeing them as essential for making positive change in the world.

Ten minutes with Jasmine

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be okay with modifications and adjusting. When going into field experiences, do not rely too much on lesson plans as a script; after practicing, teach naturally so students get more from it.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't let the perception that other people had on the career or their experiences state what it's gonna be for you. Go in with your own perspective. Don't rely on other people's experiences.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Community and humanity are very strong values because those are two of the biggest things that we need right now out in the world, and that's how we can make change.
