About Jasmine
With 20 years of experience in the technology field, I currently work as a Central Control Operator at an airport, a position I've held for one year. My career has spanned telecommunications, sales, and various technology roles before landing in this specialized position. In my day-to-day work, I move trains and operate automated people movers, focusing on preventing accidents and recovering vehicles when needed. I also train other operators and practice on simulators to maintain my skills, and I regularly read manuals to stay current. My expertise lies in central control operations for trains and automated people movers. While I don't have any formal awards on paper, I take pride in the fact that my boss once told me I make his job easier. I'm certified as a Central Control Operator and in CPR, and I hold an associate's degree from El Camino College. Currently, I'm working on my Project Management Certificate as part of my goal to move up the ladder in my company. Looking ahead, I'd like to eventually earn a bachelor's degree and retire at a decent age, while making a lasting impact on the projects I work on so I can drive by sites and say I was part of building them.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Move with a purpose and have direction. Decide on your field and dive into that, whatever it may be. Start saving for retirement at a young age, and try not to dip into it.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Projects are hard to get on for transportation, because trains aren't always being built, and when they are, people flock to them, so it's a lot of people trying to do the same job. I work at a site that has multiple contracting companies, like handfuls of subcontractors all on one project. They can complicate things, and I would say the hardest part about that is just finding a site you can stay at permanently that pays well.
