Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jasmine
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my support system, the people that surround me and hold me up even on my lowest days and the families that still support me because they have faith in me and my field.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best piece of career advice that I was given is to prevent my self-doubt in what I do is to know that I am the expert in my 20 plus year career. I'll never stop learning, but I need to have the self-confidence that I am the expert.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice would be to be observant and adaptive to various environments and to always be ready to talk to anyone about what Recreation therapy is, how there is evidence-based research supporting it, always fighting for more recognition for us and the world is just now starting to catch up.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In a world where there is more priority on what insurance will cover and tight budgets, the biggest challenge is showing businesses like insurance companies that Recreation therapy is a necessity and is being prescribed all over the world. Currently. We are all only one accident away from having a disability, for example. What will motivate you to get out of bed and love your life?
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In work, I am a true believer in open communication between families of clients that I work with and myself. I believe in adapting and if there needs to be an unfamiliar moment in order to have therapeutic bonds, then there is a value in that moment. In my personal life, I make sure that my schedule allows me to be a more present family member, wife, and parent of my own kids. I hope I can show them an ideal human being through my actions.
