Her Story

About Jasmine

I really like helping people and the day-to-day tasks that HR would complete. I started off in an administrative assistant type of position, and from there, I saw that there was a larger gap to fill when it comes to human resources - to make sure people are knowledgeable about all the resources that we can offer. Right now, I work for a tech company doing ADA accommodations for the entire U.S. All employees either returning to work, or if they've had an injury, or if they're pregnant, any type of disability-related accommodation, they would come to me. I have an interactive conversation with them, make sure that they're helped, and then we get the accommodation approved for them. I do the complete intake process from start to finish for all accommodation cases in the U.S. I handled over 400 cases last year, single-handedly. We really just kicked off this program when I joined the company in June of 2024. I'm the first person in my role, and it's really grown and expanded into a really great program so far. The workplace should be for everyone - no matter if you're disabled or not, I want to make sure I'm working in a place where everybody feels comfortable.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

To be yourself. When it comes to being in a corporate America world, some people put on masks and take on different roles and try to make themselves fit in, and you shouldn't have to do that. You should just be yourself, and if you're who you say you are, you'll... it'll take you further anyway.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

This is a really great field to get into, especially in today's world. You're making sure people feel comfortable, and you're doing your best to make sure everyone has an inclusive place to work. I would tell them to make sure that they're knowledgeable on all applicable state and federal laws, go with your gut, and make sure you're doing something that you feel comfortable with.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Bandwidth is a challenge, of course, with being the only person to take on the cases. The state of the world - people often don't find human resources helpful sometimes, especially with all the job cuts going on. So, making sure employees know their resources, how they can reach out for help becomes a challenge when you have over 8,000 employees to try to speak with. To solve these challenges, I do my best to lean on different sectors of the business. We have this program called a gig at my company currently, where you can offer someone time to come help you out, learn a new resource. So I lean on that. I try my best to lean on my HR business partners for support as well. And then when it comes to resources, I try my best to advocate for all employees. I have a webpage on our company's intranet website where it talks about everything accommodation-related, how you can request one, the benefits of requesting an accommodation. And I also, when I'm talking to some of my engineers and things of that nature, I also tell them, like, hey, tell your friends about the accommodation process. Talk to other people, make sure that they're aware of it.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Number one is inclusivity. The workplace should be for everyone. No matter if you're disabled or not, I want to make sure I'm working in a place where everybody feels comfortable. Diversity would be another one. I like working with other people from different backgrounds, and I think my company does a really good job with that, being an international company. I work with people from so many different backgrounds, and it's very interesting to see that in my day-to-day. And then I think it would be integrity. With the works that I do, you want to do a good job for people, and you want to make sure that everybody feels comfortable when they come to you, and that's part of having good integrity.
