Her Story

About Jasmine

I started my career teaching in the classroom as an ELA teacher, and I always had a passion for students, professional development, and technology. I began doing trainings at my campus, and someone approached me saying they thought I'd be great for a specialist role. I kind of just moved into that specialist role, and as time went on, I became really passionate about still teaching, but in the technology field. I just kind of walked into it, and now I'm currently the coordinator in my current district, where I still teach professional development, but mainly create programs for students and teachers. In my day-to-day work, I review programming for our media centers to make sure students have access to current apps. I create professional development for teachers, hosting trainings on the newest tools or district rollouts. I also have meetings with vendors to review products and ensure they're aligned to our district needs and policy. I do a lot of meeting with stakeholders within our organization, like our academics team, collaborating on how our department could support theirs, such as helping them roll out a new textbook adoption.

Ten minutes with Jasmine

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to hard work and perseverance. I'm a person who didn't come from that cookie-cutter background, but I've had a lot of challenges and tribulations that kind of shaped who I am, and they have ultimately forced me to just keep going. I have people in my corner that are rooting for me, and that has really pushed me over the edge.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to lean on your support system, but also trust that everything is working out for your good. You know, there are things that happen in life, and you're like, oh my gosh, I can't believe this happened, but all of it is shaping your story, and it's going to propel you to the next level. So, just believe that you're on the right path.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think the challenge is resources and time. The state of Texas in general, not even just my profession, but people are strapped for cash and money. So they're asking people to do more with less, and we just don't have the resources to provide what kids actually need. And so that's hard. You think about classrooms and teachers, they're being asked to do more, but there's less people, or they're not getting paid more.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think integrity would be one, and just leadership and communication, those are things that I hold near and dear to my heart. I also value connection and relationships.
