About Jasmine
My journey into insurance was not a planned one. I earned my bachelor’s degree in marketing with every intention of pursuing a career in that field, but after graduating, I realized it wasn’t the right long-term fit for me. That realization led me to an opportunity at StarStone as an administrative assistant—an entry point that would ultimately shape my career in ways I hadn’t anticipated.
Within less than a year, I was promoted to a paralegal role supporting the compliance and regulatory function, where I discovered a strong interest in governance, risk, and regulatory frameworks. Over the past eight years, I have built experience across multiple lines of insurance, including marine, travel, and property and casualty. Each transition has broadened my perspective, exposing me to new complexities, markets, and key players—what once felt like a niche field has proven to be both dynamic and full of opportunity.
I currently work as a compliance specialist focused on trade and economic sanctions and anti-money laundering (AML). My role spans policy development and enhancement, as well as oversight of sanctions screening processes at the L3 level, where I handle complex escalations requiring enhanced due diligence. Through this work, I contribute to strengthening compliance frameworks while supporting effective and risk-informed decision-making.
While my long-term goal has been to lead a compliance function, my experience has expanded my perspective on what’s possible within the field. I have developed a strong interest in regulatory technology, particularly the application of artificial intelligence to improve screening models, reduce false positives, and streamline manual processes for analysts. I am motivated by the opportunity to help shape more efficient, forward-thinking approaches to compliance in an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to my mom, Nikki. From a young age, she made countless sacrifices to give me opportunities she didn’t always have herself. Whether it was preparing for a gifted and talented middle school, enrolling me in additional prep programs, or supporting every new interest I pursued, she consistently encouraged me to aim higher and believe in what was possible.
She invested in my education all the way through college, but more importantly, she instilled in me a mindset that has shaped everything I’ve accomplished since. She taught me that if I can truly see myself achieving something, then it’s within reach—that belief, combined with hard work, can turn vision into reality.
Everything I do today is driven, in part, by a desire to give back even a fraction of what she gave me. Her support, resilience, and unwavering belief in me continue to be the foundation of my growth and ambition.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The advice I would give to young women entering this field is simple: don’t sell yourself short. It can be intimidating stepping into a traditionally male-dominated industry, especially when the roles you aspire to don’t always reflect people who look like you. That lack of representation can make the path forward feel uncertain—but it shouldn’t limit your ambition.
Set clear goals for yourself and stay committed to achieving them. Whether that means building your network, developing new skills, or seeking out mentors, be intentional about your growth. Most importantly, trust in your ability and your potential.
I firmly believe that if you can see yourself in a role, then it’s within your reach. When your mindset aligns with your goals, you’re already one step closer to achieving them.
