Jasmine Schabacker
Jasmine Schabacker is an optical care professional based in Rochelle, Illinois, with experience spanning patient-facing vision care, retail optical management, and team leadership. She has built her career around improving patient experiences in eye care settings, combining technical optician skills with a strong focus on service, communication, and operational support. Known for her hands-on approach, she has worked across multiple roles in the optical industry and is recognized for her ability to guide patients through eyewear selection and fitting with care and attention to individual needs.
Before entering the vision care field, Jasmine spent 10 years working in hospitality as a bartender, including five years managing a bar. Seeking a more stable career that would also allow her to spend more time with her son, she transitioned into optical care by joining Eyeglass World in Rockford, Illinois. That shift marked a defining moment in her professional path—particularly when she helped a young child receive her first pair of glasses, witnessing the emotional impact of restored sight. From there, she advanced through increasingly responsible roles, including optician work and general management at Shopko Optical, as well as positions at Eyeglass World and Primary Eye Care, building a well-rounded background in both clinical support and retail operations.
Currently, Jasmine has stepped away from work to care for her father, while planning to return to the optical industry in the future. Her strengths lie in optician services such as eyewear selection, lens fitting, insurance processing, and patient pre-testing, alongside leadership and team development experience. Her career reflects a consistent commitment to patient care, adaptability, and resilience, shaped by both professional growth and personal responsibility.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my dad's advice. When I first started working at McDonald's when I was young, he told me 'I don't care if you're just mopping the floor. Mop the floor better than everybody else, and it'll get noticed.' That has always been the core of my work ethic. Even though I am good at what I do, I carry that with me - doing things better than everyone else, no matter what the task is. I've told people that advice, and I've been told on several occasions from people that I've trained that it has made them much better at their jobs.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was actually from my dad. When I first started working at McDonald's, he told me 'I don't care if you're just mopping the floor. Mop the floor better than everybody else, and it'll get noticed.' That has always been the core of my work ethic. The second best advice I ever received was from one of my district managers at Shopko. She told me to never walk into a room thinking I'm the smartest person, because I'll never learn anything new. Even though I am good at what I do, somebody might do something a little bit better that I can learn from, and so I carry that with me.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It would be what my dad told me - I don't care if you're just mopping the floor, mop the floor better than everybody else, and it'll get noticed. I have told people that, and they carry that with them. I've been told on several occasions from people that I've trained that that has made them much better at their jobs.
