Her Story

About Jasmine

My undergrad was in computer science at Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College within the CUNY system in New York. After graduating I worked as a software engineer and started my master's in cybersecurity part-time. In the middle of my master's I transitioned into a security engineering role and completed the degree in about 4 years. Previously I had planned to become a doctor and was on the pre-med track but accidentally discovered computer science through a summer program before freshman year and switched paths. Now I focus on content creation in cybersecurity and AI security reaching over 100K followers.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

In corporate settings you will meet many different types of people and it is beneficial to engage with them differently depending on their personalities since not everyone matches your energy. I have pivoted in my career multiple times without knowing the outcome but it always turned out better than expected.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Find communities of other women in cyber especially if you are the only female on engineering teams. It helps to talk to them and hear their experiences. Understand that imposter syndrome is normal but focus on what you are doing to set yourself apart.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The industry moves very quickly especially with AI creating a constant need to stay on top of everything which can feel challenging. I turned this into an opportunity by identifying the gap between AI and security and starting content creation less than a year ago growing to over 100K followers sharing security and AI security topics. There are challenges for women feeling they do not belong in AI but showing there are many women in the space and room for more helps overcome that.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Balance in everything including work-life balance. Feeling passionate about what I do and doing things that drive value and impact for others. Enjoying the process and what I am doing.
