Her Story
About Javeria
I am a special education teacher with 12 years of experience in education. I began my career teaching preschool at a Montessori school for almost 10 years, where I developed my love for working with young children. After earning my certification in special education, I transitioned to teaching in a public school setting, where I have been for the past 2 years. I currently teach kindergarten students with special needs, including non-verbal students, using specialized strategies to help them learn and communicate. My typical day starts with a morning meeting greeting students, followed by work time, lessons, recess, and playground activities on a set schedule. Before entering education, I worked in political offices, interning at a senator's office and the United Nations, where I helped constituents with services, managed data, and arranged events. I hold a bachelor's degree in liberal arts and a master's degree in political science from Rutgers University, graduating in 2024.

Ten minutes with Javeria
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a lot of family support. I feel like it's very important, because without any family support, I feel like it's too hard to accomplish your career and your professional life. A good support system is very, very important. My principal was also very supportive throughout my journey into education, and that support system has been essential to where I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was: Don't take your job as a job. You should have a passion and love and the heart of doing that. And if you enjoy it, that means it's for you. This advice has really shaped how I approach my work, and it reminds me that when you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work at all.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them, you know, work hard, be independent. Be financially independent. And do the, choose the career that you really want to do, and you have a love for it. It's so important to follow your passion and make sure you're doing something you truly care about, because that's what will sustain you throughout your career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There are challenges in every sector, right? But I feel like you need to, every day is learning, and with everyday learning, you can accomplish all the challenges and get all the hurdles away from your side if you have a passion of working or a passion of learning. I feel like every day is a new day, and we should take it like that, that every day should be a fresh start. As for opportunities in teaching, there are a lot of opportunities if you have a love and passion to teach. It does not matter if you get hired or if you don't get hired right away. I feel like if you really want to do something, you can find your way. You can do substitutes, you can do day-to-day basis work, or long-term sub positions. If you really want to teach, there are opportunities.
