What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my ability to persevere and willingness to pivot in my career, while using the previous skills I have learned to grow further into a well-rounded professional. This experience has allowed me to identify opportunities, anticipate challenges, and provide solutions that make a meaningful impact.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to treat every first impression as a networking opportunity and to use positive body language, such as maintaining appropriate eye contact and offering a confident handshake.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering the industry to participate in networking events, connect with other industry professionals, and embrace perseverance. Staying persistent, even in the face of challenges, is key to learning, growing, and ultimately achieving success.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would say one of the biggest challenges in the security field today is having conversations with clients who are primarily focused on “checking the security box” by adding the latest technology to their buildings, rather than taking a deeper look at their team’s daily operations. Too often, organizations overlook solutions that go beyond physical security and instead involve policy, procedures, and behavior-changing operational practices. I frequently see clients view risk management consulting as a reactive measure rather than a proactive strategy, which can make these discussions particularly challenging given the sensitive nature of the industry.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my personal and professional life center around family and innovation. I cherish spending quality time with my husband and our two-year-old daughter, which keeps me grounded and motivated. Professionally, I am deeply passionate about Wayfinder, the removable evacuation map signage system that my business partner and I developed together. Launched this past fall, it is currently installed in multiple government facility buildings in Maine, primarily supporting first responders while also offering features for personal wayfinding use. This project reflects my commitment to creating practical, life-saving solutions that make a real difference.
