Her Story
About Jayni
My background is in mental health for veterans. I'm a veteran myself, retired after 17 years in the Army due to injuries sustained. This drove me into the mental health field to help other veterans based on my personal experiences. Previously, I managed 63 people across Texas at the Texas Veterans Commission providing peer-to-peer support and resources. Now at Combined Arms, I work as a customer success manager ensuring clients receive resources through their technology platform.

Ten minutes with Jayni
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success to the military. It gave me a purpose and taught me that I am more resilient than I think, which is one of my strongest attributes.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Dress for the jobs you want, not for the one you have. That kind of just made me think in that mentality, like you just gotta always work harder for what you're wanting.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be prepared to work hard and be open-minded. Make sure you're non-judgmental, open-minded, and truly passionate. Remember to take care of yourself with self-care because burnout is real.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
For mental health research, it's only really good for about two to three years and then you need more research and more updated work because factors are constantly changing. The challenge is racing against the time and the research.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Work-life balance is really important so I can be committed to my job but also to my family. Integrity and being passionate about the work I do. I want to do it right since we only get one life.
