Her Story

About Jazlyn

I started my career working for the city of Lakeland as a utility worker with certifications in OSHA and NCCER, initially wanting to be an engineer. But while doing fieldwork and meeting people, I realized I wanted to focus on community development instead. I went to Stetson University in DeLand and got my degree in international studies with concentrations in Latino Studies and human resource management, because I saw communities suffering from education, healthcare, and environmental issues. I got a Peace Corps Community Development Certification because I wanted to tackle vulnerable communities and help them develop. I did career services for a while to develop the business and human resource management side, learning how to run a business and connect resources to communities. Now at Talos Health, I call myself the middleman - I help the business grow in their resources while connecting with caregivers and the businesses we work with to drive community development. I have all the people skills and communication abilities to connect authentically to communities that need help, and I've learned the business aspect to make it all work. My biggest professional achievement was working for the Student Support Foundation, where I took a $4,000 grant from one investor and grew it to $15,000 with multiple investors, expanding from one school with 30 students to reaching all local communities.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jazlyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

Networking opportunities and the ambition to be better every day.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My previous manager told me, you can always be a cultural fit, but are you a technical fit as well? Because that's what's going to really push you in different directions and make you the greatest expert that you can be, the greatest professional that you can be. So dabble into both sides and be both sides, because from there, you'll be great. And I've really taken that to heart, for sure.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be strong and be knowledgeable. You know your worth, and believing in yourself and your company can take you far.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Kindness, responsibility, growth, and leadership.
