Her Story

About Jazmin

My journey in accounting began over 20 years ago, right after college, when I started as an assistant at a small family-owned company. When the company’s accountant became ill, I stepped in to help wherever I could—and quickly discovered I had a natural curiosity for the work. I found myself drawn to reconciliations, invoicing, and tracking down discrepancies, and what started as a willingness to help soon grew into a long-term career.

About five years ago, I took the leap and founded my own firm, offering a hands-on, solutions-driven approach across accounting, finance, tax, and payroll. Recently completing the CPA exam process has been a pivotal milestone, sharpening my ability to navigate complex situations and provide clear, informed guidance when clients face nuanced challenges.

I consider myself a well-rounded partner to my clients—comfortable jumping from resolving tax issues, correcting payroll setups to implementing systems for multi-location businesses. I enjoy digging into the details, and if I don’t already have the answer, I’ll find it.

Earning my master’s degree and completing the CPA journey while raising a family and building a business has been my proudest accomplishment. I value the flexibility and ownership that comes with running my own firm—it allows me to show up fully for my clients while also being present for the moments that matter most, like leaving early for my daughter’s volleyball tournament.

Ten minutes with Jazmin

01What do you attribute your success to?

Consistency and determination, more than anything. Creating a plan and showing up everyday to do the hard work. But also being adaptable to changes is really important.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I’ve always liked the idea of aiming higher than what feels realistic—because even if you don’t hit the exact mark, you end up much further than you would have playing it safe. Shoot for the moon!

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't wait until you're 100% ready, because you're never gonna be. You just go for the opportunity as it becomes available to you, and just shoot your shot. I wasn't 100% ready to start my own business and go out on my own, and it is the best thing ever. I love working for myself and having some control over my day, and being able to block off time so I can go to my daughter's volleyball game. It's scary, but it's possible, and it can be the most rewarding and wonderful decision you've ever made.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think the biggest challenge facing the accounting and finance career as a whole is just this big shift that's happening to move everything to automation and AI. I know there's the fear around AI replacing us as a profession, but I really think that it's an opportunity, because AI is going to be great to automate away the repetitive tasks. The people in this career who can shift to being more of advisory and almost a tour guide for their clients into their finances instead of just the transactional work, that's going to open up so many doors and allow AI to assist us in our careers instead of letting it have the fear of replacing us. AI is a tool that I can add to my offerings to help me be better at my job.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Reliability and balance. I believe in being someone others can count on—consistently showing up and following through. At the same time, I value creating space for a full life outside of work, because long-term success depends on both.
