Her Story

About Jeanette

For more than 30 years, I have dedicated my career to education, serving students, families, educators, and communities in a variety of leadership, support, and advocacy roles. Throughout this journey, I have had the privilege of working alongside passionate educators, community leaders, and families who share a common goal: ensuring that every student has access to opportunities that help them learn, grow, and succeed. These experiences have reinforced my belief that education is one of the most powerful tools we have to transform lives, strengthen communities, and shape the future.

Over the years, I have witnessed both the challenges and the incredible successes within our educational system. I have seen students overcome obstacles, discover their strengths, and achieve goals they once thought were beyond their reach. I have also seen the critical role that educators, support staff, families, and community partnerships play in helping students thrive. These experiences have deepened my commitment to educational excellence and strengthened my passion for advocating for students and supporting those who dedicate their lives to serving them.

My work in education has allowed me to develop a broad understanding of the needs of students, families, and school communities.

It has taught me the importance of listening, collaborating, and making thoughtful decisions that prioritize student success while supporting educators and staff. I believe that strong schools are built on trust, communication, accountability, and a shared commitment to providing every child with the resources and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.

As someone who has spent more than three decades serving in education, I remain passionate about finding ways to continue making a positive impact. This commitment to public service is what inspires me to pursue leadership opportunities, including serving on a governing board. I believe that my experience, perspective, and dedication to education can help contribute to meaningful discussions and informed decision-making that benefit students, families, educators, and the broader community.

Looking ahead, I remain committed to advocating for educational opportunities that prepare students for success in an ever-changing world while ensuring they feel supported, valued, and empowered. I believe every student deserves the chance to achieve their dreams, and I am honored to continue serving and giving back to the profession and communities that have shaped so much of my life. My goal is to help create a future where all students have access to a high-quality education, where educators feel supported and respected, and where schools continue to serve as the foundation for strong and thriving communities.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, purpose, and a genuine passion for serving others. Throughout my 30 years in education, my work as a speaker and advocate, and my journey as an entrepreneur, I have learned that success is not measured by titles or accomplishments alone, but by the positive impact we have on the lives of others. I have always been committed to continuous learning, building meaningful relationships, and staying true to my values, even during challenging times. Every experience—both successes and setbacks—has shaped who I am today and strengthened my commitment to empowering others, creating opportunities, and making a difference in my community.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of the best pieces of career advice I have ever received was to never lose sight of my purpose and to always remember why I started. Throughout my 30 years in education, I have learned that careers are not built solely on accomplishments, titles, or recognition—they are built on relationships, service, and the impact we make on others. There have been moments when challenges seemed overwhelming, when change was difficult, or when the path forward was unclear. During those times, I reminded myself that my work has always been about helping others grow, succeed, and believe in themselves.

Another lesson that has stayed with me is that leadership is not about having all the answers; it is about listening, learning, and being willing to serve. The most effective leaders are those who continue to grow, remain open to new perspectives, and create opportunities for others to succeed. This advice has guided me not only in education but also in my work as a speaker, entrepreneur, and advocate.

I have also learned the importance of using my voice with purpose. There were times early in my career when I questioned whether my ideas or experiences mattered. Over the years, I discovered that every person has the ability to influence positive change. Whether I am advocating for students, speaking about bullying prevention, mentoring others, or leading a project, I have learned that courage often begins with simply speaking up and taking the first step.

Most importantly, I have learned that success is not a destination; it is a journey of continuous growth, learning, and service. The advice to stay true to my values, lead with integrity, and never stop learning has shaped who I am today and continues to guide me in every aspect of my professional and personal life.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering education, leadership, entrepreneurship, or any profession is to believe in yourself and never underestimate the value of your voice. There will be times when you question your abilities, face obstacles, or feel like you need to prove yourself more than others. During those moments, remember that your unique experiences, perspectives, and ideas are strengths that can make a meaningful difference.

Do not be afraid to take risks, ask questions, and pursue opportunities that challenge you. Some of the greatest growth happens when we step outside of our comfort zones. Be willing to learn from both your successes and your failures, because each experience will teach you something valuable. Growth is not about being perfect; it is about being resilient, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning.

I also encourage young women to seek mentors and build relationships with people who inspire, support, and challenge them to grow. Throughout my career, I have learned that success is not achieved alone. The connections we make, the lessons we learn from others, and the support we give and receive along the way are incredibly important.

Most importantly, stay true to your values and never lose sight of your purpose. It can be easy to get caught up in titles, recognition, or comparing yourself to others, but true success comes from making a positive impact and remaining authentic to who you are. As someone who has spent more than 30 years in education, advocated for kindness and bullying prevention, and built businesses from the ground up, I can say with confidence that perseverance, integrity, and compassion will take you farther than you ever imagined.

Your voice matters, your story matters, and your contributions matter. Believe in yourself, continue learning, and never be afraid to lead with courage and confidence.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in education and leadership today is meeting the diverse and evolving needs of students, families, and communities in a rapidly changing world. We are navigating advances in technology, changing workforce demands, mental health concerns, and increasing expectations for schools and organizations to provide support beyond traditional learning. These challenges require us to be adaptable, innovative, and committed to finding solutions that ensure every individual has the opportunity to succeed.

At the same time, I believe we are living in a time of tremendous opportunity. Technology has expanded access to information, resources, and connections in ways we could not have imagined just a few years ago. It has created new opportunities for collaboration, learning, and engagement that can help us better serve our students and communities. As educators and leaders, we have the ability to prepare future generations not only with academic knowledge but also with the critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Another opportunity that is especially important to me is creating environments where people feel safe, valued, and heard. Through my work as an educator and anti-bullying advocate, I have seen firsthand how a culture of kindness, inclusion, and respect can positively impact individuals and entire communities. We have an opportunity to foster greater understanding, strengthen relationships, and help young people develop empathy and resilience—qualities that are just as important as academic achievement.

As we move forward, I believe the greatest opportunity lies in working together. By building strong partnerships among schools, families, businesses, and community organizations, we can create meaningful change and ensure that future generations are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to succeed.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my professional and personal life are integrity, compassion, service, resilience, and respect. I believe integrity is the foundation of trust and leadership. It means doing what is right, even when no one is watching, being accountable for my actions, and staying true to my principles. Throughout my career in education, I have learned that people may forget what you say, but they will always remember how you made them feel and whether they could trust you.

Compassion is another value that is deeply important to me. Whether I am working with students, families, colleagues, community members, or customers through my businesses, I strive to lead with empathy and understanding. We never truly know what challenges someone may be facing, and a simple act of kindness can have a lasting impact. This belief is also what drives my advocacy work around bullying prevention and creating environments where people feel valued, respected, and supported.

Service has been at the heart of everything I do for more than three decades. Education, leadership, public speaking, advocacy, and entrepreneurship have all given me opportunities to serve others in different ways. I believe that true leadership is not about personal recognition; it is about using your knowledge, experience, and resources to help others grow and succeed.

Resilience is a value that has been shaped by both personal and professional experiences. Life will always present challenges, setbacks, and unexpected obstacles. I have learned that resilience is not about avoiding difficulties but about facing them with courage, learning from them, and continuing to move forward with purpose.

Above all, I value respect. Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, kindness, and understanding. Regardless of our differences, we all have something valuable to contribute. I believe that when we lead with respect, listen to one another, and work together, we create stronger communities, stronger organizations, and a better future for those we serve.

These values are not only principles I believe in—they are values I strive to live every day. They influence the decisions I make, the relationships I build, and the legacy I hope to leave through my work, my advocacy, and my service to others.
