Her Story

About Jeanette

I have been in the field for around 18 years. I started in college as a psychology major with social work undergrad planning to be a clinical psychologist, but switched to Industrial Organizational Psychology after joining a research project. I got my master's from Xavier University in 2008 and began in consulting designing e-learning programs. After the recession, I went into banking for three years, then spent four and a half years at Avon in change management, talent management, and as HRBP. I then worked at Platys in a hybrid OD and HRBP role for a year before moving to a manufacturing company where I built their talent function from the ground up over four years. Most recently, I spent three years at OTG leading org dev and talent acquisition, where I helped achieve recognition as a most loved workplace and increased engagement significantly.

Ten minutes with Jeanette

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from my first-gen Cuban American background and my dad's example of building a life from nothing, which instilled tenacity and work ethic. It's also the relationships I've built, the support of remarkable leaders who invested in me, and my mother's message that there isn't anything you can't do if you try hard enough. I always felt I could push through any barriers.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't put a limit on what you are able to do. Go into every role asking what can I create and how can I build off this. Get out into operations and build relationships with frontline workers to design programs that actually apply to the business rather than staying behind corporate walls.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is the most critical value. Do the right thing even when no one's watching. I have walked away from opportunities because of lack of integrity in leadership.
