Her Story
About Jeanie
I have had a very rewarding and diverse career. After owning a business as a government contractor, I transitioned to Duquesne University where I worked with graduate students for 10 years. Funding issues led me to sales at Catholic Cemeteries. I am a lifetime member of the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association and have been involved with Divine Providence for 30 years. I was Miss Pennsylvania Universe and was selected as a model and PR representative for Jockey International Women's Division. This opportunity resulted in television interviews and an additional unique career.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jeanie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I took many risks that a lot of people would never have taken, mostly in business, relocating and traveling extensively. Experience is the greatest teacher. I don't think you can sit in an office or read a book and know your career goals; you have to live through experience.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice is to follow what you love to do, what your passion is. Identify it through your heart and your mind, then take advice from others, evaluate it, and keep what works for you.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Knuckle up and buckle up because it's a rough ride. Be responsible for yourself. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Be positive, perseverant, and pursue what you desire without fear of risk. The secret to success is you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The opportunity people have is to know what their strengths are. Many do not know what they want when they come out of college. The greatest opportunity is exposure to other people and professions. Study successful and unsuccessful people because opportunity knocks only once.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being honest, kind and sincere and having a deep faith in God and the results you can achieve through Him.
