Her Story

About Jenaya

I started my career at Costco wholesale where I worked for about 10 years before making a career pivot within the company to go into IT as a business analyst. That transition into IT was really where I decided I wanted to expand and grow my career. From there, I went to SAP where I was working for their healthcare life sciences small businesses. Then I was recruited to go into consulting, which took me to Seattle Genetics, where I learned how to become a project manager. Seattle Genetics led me to Pfizer, Pfizer led me to J&J, and now I'm an IT project manager for healthcare and life sciences. I'm a VEEVA implementation specialist - VEEVA is a software used amongst healthcare life sciences, like an ERP that most major pharmaceutical companies run their business off of. I have implemented this software at Seattle Genetics, Pfizer, and now I'm doing that same thing at Johnson & Johnson. I'm responsible for managing the process and solution workstream for the regulatory organization at J&J, including the project plan, all the tasks and deliverables, keeping the work stream on track, and reporting up to executive level, C-suite level on the health of the project.

Ten minutes with Jenaya

01What do you attribute your success to?

I have a really hard, good work ethic. If I can make it fun, then I won't be resistant to hard work. So I'm not afraid of hard work, and I'm very committed. When I look back to when I first started working when I was young, it was just that I work really hard and I make it a priority. I ask a lot of questions and I follow through. But if I look back on my journey, I wouldn't have had any of the opportunities that I have had if it weren't for the relationships that I was building along the way. Building relationships has been key to opening doors throughout my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The less that you can take things personal, the more you can focus on the task at hand. When you start taking everything personal and you just focus on what you can control and what is within your job responsibility, doors just start to open. There's so many things that can distract us and pull us away from just what our job is, but if you can drown out all of that white noise, don't take things personal and just do your best, which comes from the book The Four Agreements, doors begin to open. It's a short coffee table read, and it's life-changing.
