About Jenna
Jenna Walia has worked in education since 2012 and is now tenured at Broward College. She initially pursued athletic training and sports medicine after graduating in 2008 and attending grad school in 2009, but pivoted during the recession when hospital hiring freezes prevented her from securing a desired role. Walia began teaching as an adjunct at Broward College and advanced to full-time and tenured status. In entrepreneurship, she started a property investment business in 2020 and a fitness business that became operational in 2022 with vendors across multiple cities. She draws inspiration from her grandparents' discussions on generational wealth and property ownership. Walia values integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, and being down to earth in both her professional and personal life. She was awarded a sabbatical and emphasizes execution and mindset in overcoming entrepreneurial challenges.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jenna
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My dad said don't ever jump out in front of your money. Don't put yourself in a position where you buy something you can't afford, because then you're overworking to pay for it instead of advancing your career.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Love yourself. Get to know yourself. Be honest with your capacity. Every no is not infinite. You're enough. Don't get involved with knuckleheads. Take your time. When on the right path, you won't hear anything negative.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Biggest challenge in entrepreneurship is execution. You have an idea but have to get out of yourself to do things. Once you get over the mindset that you can't, then nothing stops you. Opportunities come about because you took a step.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity. Being down to earth. Being able to talk to anybody and everybody. Being honest. Mean what you say, say what you mean. Trustworthiness.
