Jennie Myers

Director of Homeowner Services
Dunes Village Resort
Myrtle Beach, SC 29577

Jennie Myers began her career in the amusement park industry while attending college, building early experience in guest service and operations. In 2004, she relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to care for her sick grandparents and transitioned into hospitality with no prior hotel experience. Starting at a front desk role, her background in English literature and strong critical-thinking skills helped her stand out, leading to a rapid career progression in resort operations.

She now serves as the Director of Homeowner Services at Dunes Village Resort, where she oversees homeowner relations, unit performance, and guest experience quality at a large oceanfront property. In her role, she manages day-to-day concerns from homeowners, tracks revenue performance, ensures guest satisfaction, and leads her team in maintaining high operational standards. Her approach centers on protecting owner investments while preserving a strong sense of community and a “family feel” throughout the resort.

Beyond her hospitality career, Jennie is deeply involved in military family support as an Army spouse. She serves as a peer leader with the Institute for Military and Veteran Family Wellness, where she helps facilitate support groups for active-duty spouses through a Department of Defense-funded initiative with the University of Texas. She also volunteers in leadership and advisory roles supporting community initiatives and HOA governance. Across both her professional and volunteer work, her focus remains consistent: proactively solving problems, supporting others through transition and uncertainty, and finding meaningful ways to help wherever she can.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I was in the amusement park industry while I was in college, and then I had sick grandparents, so I moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2004. I started at the front desk with no hotel experience at all, but because of my experience with English literature, they liked my critical thinking, so they hired me right away. Then I quickly moved up to being a director of homeowner services at a large oceanfront resort. I never really saw myself in hospitality, but helping the homeowners and protecting their investment, and trying to make sure I keep that family feel - like, I need to know that I'm helping to want to do the job. I could have moved up, but I don't think the other positions are my thing, my niche. As an Army spouse, I'm a peer leader and I run support groups for active duty spouses on the side. It's through the University of Texas and funded by the DOD. It's the first of its kind and a research study as well. Again, it's just really my mission is just finding ways to help wherever I can. That's what's most important. If I don't feel like I'm doing that, then I need to shift my focus. I field every and all questions from homeowners in regards to the condition of their unit, the revenue that they're making, making sure that all of their guests and their stays are great, and just making sure my team stays on task. And then in the evenings and weekends, I'm taking care of the military spouses just by providing them support and resources to navigate through the challenges of every day. So I guess I'm just always putting out fires and trying to be proactive before they start as well. I would say being elected to the HOA Board of Directors - I'm on two - that was just a surprise in a meeting where the homeowners just asked if they could nominate me, and I've been serving on those boards for many years now. That, again, is a volunteer position, but I've been on the Board of Directors for almost 8 years, and being a female and being one of the youngest on the board of directors was definitely an honor and a good accomplishment. I did English Literature at SUNY Brockport. I have certifications in property management, also the peer leading was a certified course. I'm in the process of doing mental health first aid certification - it's just anything to give me a better background to keep helping. I'm still very avid in my Delta Phi Epsilon sorority, even though I've been out of college for a minute now. And I just became a humanitarian ambassador for Authentic Beauties brand. I just started that this month, actually, and I'm getting more involved in that organization. It's a lot of community service, so I felt that humanitarian ambassador definitely was the most up my alley. It's helping orphanages over in Africa, so I look forward to doing that, and once I get back to South Carolina, I'll be doing much more with the Chamber of Commerce again. When I started at the front desk, I started learning the different roles in the hotel industry, and I just realized that in order to continue and to want to keep doing it, I needed to find the best role that you have that personal relationship with people. So, the more I realized that homeowner services and being the director of that would give me that opportunity where not a day goes by that I don't know that I've helped someone.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Know your worth and follow your dreams. That's the best thing I can say, and I think I follow that. My favorite quote is, you know, go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you've imagined. There's my literature nerd coming out, but I have that quote tattooed on my body, actually. And I put it in the bottom of my email signature, just because I feel like it's something that people don't follow enough. And, you know, it's cliche to say life is too short, but in professional and personal life, you have to find that balance.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Helping people is at the core of everything I do. I'm in the business of helping people - anything I can do to volunteer or help in the community, whether it be the military community or my direct community. That's what's most important. If I don't feel like I'm doing that, then I need to shift my focus. I need to know that I'm helping to want to do the job. In order to continue and to want to keep doing it, I needed to find the best role that you have that personal relationship with people, where not a day goes by that I don't know that I've helped someone. My friends and family would say resilience about me - I don't really let anything stop me for too long. I had some medical issues, the great hospital stay of 2019 where I was in a coma and had 16 surgeries since then. They told my family that I wasn't gonna wake up and to come say goodbye to me, but I defied the odds. I like to go camping and fishing with my husband, just anything in nature, really - it's my happy place. Going to the ocean at night, I didn't realize going from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, right on the ocean to Central Texas that the ocean is definitely my zen place. When he's away, like, on duty for the military, that's where I spend most of my time. I feel it's important to keep rooting for each other so everybody grows, and I think a lot of times it's hard for people to highlight their accomplishments without sounding vain in some aspects. But it's important that we do that for each other.
