Her Story
About Jennifer
I started my TikTok shop, Jen Shop, about 3-4 months ago after my sister-in-law referred me to the Faith Fluence agency. I sell TikTok products on commission, providing all kinds of great facial and beauty products and a little bit of everything so that everybody can find something useful to them. Every day at noon Eastern Time, I go live for 3-4 hours, hosting shopping sessions and Bestie Box Battles to help people meet one another and grow family and friends. I receive samples from vendors and I love opening them on video to share the excitement with my followers - it's like Christmas every time I get a sample. I love going to my mailbox and seeing it full. Prior to this, I drew Social Security because I'm disabled from breaking my hip as a child, and I tried working fast food when I was younger but couldn't be on my feet long enough. This business has given me a sense of responsibility and achievement because I really didn't have any responsibility before - I would just sleep all day. Now I'm actually doing it every day, getting the products, doing the videos. I've made a handful of sales and about $30-$45 in commissions so far. I'm just getting started and haven't really found my niche yet, but I'm working on it and the numbers are going to grow.

Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success to family, because without family, without my wonderful fiance and his sister, I would not have begun this wonderful journey. My sister-in-law was a member of Faith Fluence and when I saw her getting all these great samples, I asked her how she was doing this and she referred me to the agency. That's how I got started around Christmas. My fiance has been supportive throughout this journey, even though the time I spend online has become challenging for our relationship. But without their support and encouragement, I wouldn't be where I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is not to give up, that it's hard in the beginning, and just not to give up, to keep going. Keep your head up and don't pay attention to the numbers, just keep going, because the numbers are going to grow. This advice has been really important to me as I'm just getting started with my TikTok shop and haven't found my niche yet. It reminds me to stay focused on the journey rather than getting discouraged by where I am right now.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to women starting out their own business or their own TikTok shop is not to give up, that it's gonna be hard in the beginning, but not to give up, to keep going, to keep pushing. You're gonna do something great, just keep going. I know from my own experience that it's challenging when you're just getting started and the commissions are small, but the important thing is to stay committed and keep pushing forward. The success will come if you don't give up.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges I face is that my TikTok shop is sort of coming in between my relationship, because I have to spend a lot of time online. I have to spend a lot of time not just with my own shop, but meeting other people in their lives, and in messages, and I have to spend a lot of time on my phone, and my fiance hates it. So that's one of the biggest challenges - it's sort of becoming a problem in my relationship. On the opportunity side, one of the greatest opportunities is that I'm meeting so many wonderful people through this work. The connections and community I'm building are really valuable.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in my work and personal life are trust, honesty, self-respect, self-honesty, and loyalty. Loyalty is a big one for me. These values guide how I interact with my followers and customers on my TikTok shop, and they're fundamental to my relationships, especially with my fiance and family who have supported me on this journey. I believe in being honest and trustworthy with the people I work with and the products I share, and I value the loyalty of the community I'm building.
