Her experience has provided her with extensive expertise in emergency communications, public safety operations, supervision, crisis response, records management, and criminal justice administration. Jennifer continued to expand her professional experience with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation/Georgia Information Sharing Analysis Center (GBI/GISAC), serving as a Watch Desk Analyst/Criminal Analyst and contributing to the launch of the Say Something, See Something program. She later worked with the Richmond County Communications Center before joining the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, initially as a file clerk and receptionist. Through her dedication and leadership, she advanced to her current position as Assistant Records Supervisor, where she supports the effective operation of the Records Division and focuses on compliance, accuracy, quality assurance, staff development, and reliable criminal justice information. Jennifer holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice and an MBA in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, along with professional certifications in criminal justice information systems, security awareness, and related areas. Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the people I have met throughout my career, particularly the role models and mentors who believed in me, encouraged me, and recognized my potential. Their support and reassurance helped me build confidence, pursue opportunities, and believe that I was capable of achieving my goals. Their guidance has not only contributed to my professional growth but has also strengthened my passion for the work I do. I am grateful for the individuals who have supported and inspired me along the way, as I truly believe their influence has played an important role in where I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to recognize that everyone who crosses your path has something to teach you. My mentors have not been defined by one person or one chapter of my career; rather, I have learned from the many people I have encountered throughout my professional journey, from the legal and hospitality fields to law enforcement and public service. Each experience, whether positive or difficult, has taught me valuable lessons, strengthened my resilience, and shaped the way I lead and serve others. I have learned that mentorship does not always come from someone with a formal title—it can come from anyone who believes in you, challenges you, encourages you, or leaves you with a lesson that stays with you. Above all, my faith in God has been the foundation that has guided me through every chapter, and I am grateful for the people and experiences He has placed in my path. I carry those lessons forward with the hope of encouraging and supporting others in their own journeys.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering law enforcement to gain firsthand experience through internships, volunteer opportunities, or other ways to explore the field before deciding on a specific career path. Law enforcement offers a wide range of opportunities and career specialties, and there is tremendous potential for women to make a meaningful impact. My advice is not to be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, ask questions, and try new things. Believe in yourself, recognize your capabilities, and remember that we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is recognizing that not every opportunity or career path will unfold the way you expect. Throughout my career, I have experienced difficult transitions, demanding schedules, changing responsibilities, and situations that required me to make difficult decisions and adapt. Rather than allowing those challenges to define me, I have chosen to view them as opportunities to learn, grow, and discover new directions. My experiences across the legal field, hospitality, emergency communications, criminal justice, records management, and entrepreneurship have taught me the importance of resilience, flexibility, communication, and knowing my own worth. I believe every challenge can create an opportunity for growth, and sometimes a setback can open the door to something even better. Ultimately, the people who believe in you, the lessons you learn along the way, and your willingness to keep moving forward can turn difficult experiences into opportunities for personal and professional growth.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are family, loyalty, compassion, service, resilience, and integrity. Family is at the heart of my life and one of my greatest sources of purpose and joy. I believe in being present for the people I love, especially during challenging times, and I have learned through personal experiences to never take our health, relationships, or time together for granted. I also value spending time outdoors and creating meaningful memories through activities such as horseback riding, recreational shooting, riding ATV’s, and hunting or fishing, which have given me opportunities to connect with the people I love and recharge. Professionally, I believe in leading with honesty, dependability, and genuine care for others; remembering to treat others the way I would like to be treated. Whether I am supporting my family, serving my community, mentoring others, or helping clients, I strive to build relationships based on trust, honesty, and respect. At the core of everything I do is the belief that life is about the people we share it with and the positive difference we can make in their lives.
