Plano, TX 75150

Jennifer Barton is an Early Careers and Campus Recruiting leader based in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, currently serving as a Central Campus Lead at Vanguard. In this role, she focuses on building meaningful early talent pipelines, strengthening university partnerships, and delivering an exceptional candidate experience for students entering the workforce. Her approach is rooted in authenticity and connection—ensuring that early career professionals feel seen, supported, and confident as they begin their careers. Prior to Vanguard, she held a similar role in Early Careers Attraction at GSK, where she led student engagement initiatives, campus programs, and talent attraction strategies designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Earlier in her career, Jennifer built a strong foundation in talent acquisition and operations through progressive roles at Deloitte and BDO USA, where she specialized in campus recruiting, full-cycle hiring coordination, and candidate experience. She also brings over a decade of leadership experience from Marriott International, where she managed front office operations and team development across multiple hotel brands. This hospitality background shaped her people-first leadership style and strengthened her ability to create memorable, service-oriented experiences—skills she now applies to building strong relationships with students, universities, and hiring teams.

Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Science in History from The University of Texas at Arlington, a discipline that continues to influence her recruiting philosophy by helping her understand the “why” behind people’s career decisions. She is passionate about mentoring students, supporting resume and interview preparation, and helping early talent translate their potential into opportunity. Known for her relationship-driven approach, she blends strategic recruiting expertise with empathy and storytelling to connect candidates with roles where they can thrive and grow.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to actively listening for a candidate’s “why,” creating meaningful and positive candidate experiences, and building strong, trust-based relationships. I also leverage transferable skills gained from my previous experience in hospitality and my academic background in history, which have strengthened my communication, adaptability, and perspective in my work.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to be authentic about your motivations and stay clear on your “why.” Invest time in building strong professional networks and preparing thoroughly for interviews, as these are key to long-term success. While technology and AI can be helpful tools, I encourage maintaining a strong focus on human connection and in-person engagement whenever possible, as relationships remain at the heart of this work.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The main challenges in my field are the rise of AI in early career recruiting and its impact on authenticity and candidate engagement. While AI won’t replace the human element in hiring, it can blur genuine interaction and make it harder to assess true motivation and critical thinking when candidates rely on it too heavily. On the business side, another challenge is ensuring early talent is developed with the same intentionality as experienced hires, rather than being treated as a numbers-driven process.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are listening, empathy, authenticity, and prioritizing the candidate experience. I believe in taking the time to truly understand others, showing up with genuine care, and remaining authentic in all interactions. These principles guide how I build relationships and ensure that every candidate feels respected and valued throughout the process.
