About Jennifer

Jennifer White Burke is a highly accomplished ophthalmic professional with more than 30 years of experience in clinical ophthalmology, medical technology, and customer education. As a Senior Clinical Application Specialist at iCare USA, she partners with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and clinical teams to implement advanced ophthalmic diagnostic technologies through comprehensive product installation, clinical training, and ongoing application support. Her unique combination of clinical expertise and technical knowledge enables her to help practices optimize workflow, improve diagnostic capabilities, and enhance patient care.

After graduating from Westfield State University, Jennifer began her career as a Sales Administrator for an ophthalmic instrument company, where she developed a strong interest in ophthalmic technology and its impact on patient care. She then spent 25 years as a scribe and ophthalmic technician for a retina specialist, assisting with patient examinations, surgical procedures, diagnostic testing, patient education, and the training and mentoring of new clinical staff. In 2019, she joined iCare USA, initially serving in a sales role before transitioning into the clinical applications position she is most passionate about. Today, she travels throughout the United States installing ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, educating physicians and clinical teams on best practices, and continuing to work directly with patients to ensure successful technology adoption and exceptional clinical outcomes.

Jennifer is widely recognized for her commitment to advancing ophthalmic care through education, innovation, and collaborative partnership. A Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), she actively supports clinicians at leading industry conferences, including Vision Expo, ASCRS, ARVO, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where she demonstrates emerging diagnostic technologies and shares clinical expertise. Driven by a passion for lifelong learning and improving patient outcomes, Jennifer has built a reputation as a trusted clinical educator, technical specialist, and valued resource within the ophthalmic community.

Ten minutes with Jennifer

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the guidance and support of two exceptional mentors who profoundly shaped my career. A lifelong friend believed in my potential from the very beginning, helping me secure my first opportunity in the ophthalmic industry and later opening the door for me to join iCare as Vice President of Sales. Equally influential was the first retina specialist I worked with, whose clinical expertise, passion for patient care, and commitment to excellence inspired me to continually grow as a professional. His mentorship encouraged me to earn my Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) credential and laid the foundation for the clinical knowledge and dedication that continue to guide my work today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that mentorship is essential throughout every stage of your career. Having trusted mentors who can share their experience, offer guidance, and help you navigate important decisions provides invaluable perspective and helps you identify the right path for your professional growth. Their support not only builds confidence but also encourages continuous learning and opens doors to new opportunities.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the ophthalmic industry is to avoid limiting yourself to a single career path. Ophthalmology offers a wide range of opportunities beyond direct patient care, including medical technology, clinical applications, sales, education, research, and clinical trials. Stay curious, be open to new experiences, and continue building your skills. By embracing different opportunities and remaining adaptable, you can discover a career path that aligns with your strengths and passions while making a meaningful impact on patient care.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my professional and personal life are lifelong learning, service, and a commitment to helping others. I am passionate about advancing patient care through clinician education, hands-on training, and the effective implementation of innovative ophthalmic technologies. I also believe in giving back to the community through volunteer initiatives such as Special Olympics vision screenings, where early detection of vision issues can improve quality of life and even identify underlying systemic diseases. Making a meaningful difference through education, compassionate care, and community service is what continues to inspire and drive my work.
